This is our blog page, and like the name on the menu says, this is where you can drop by for news and tips. News about the latest hardware, software and yes, malware too. You need to stay on top of the good, the bad and the ugly to get the most out of your I.T. investments.
We will also be posting tips and industry news.
It has been quite awhile since the first P.C. hit the store shelves. Here is a story on just that, from Wikipedia:
The IBM Personal Computer, commonly known as the IBM PC, is the original version and progenitor of the IBM PC compatible hardware platform. It is IBM model number 5150, and was introduced on August 12, 1981. It was created by a team of engineers and designers under the direction of Don Estridge of the IBM Entry Systems Division in Boca Raton, Florida.
Alongside "microcomputer" and "home computer", the term "personal computer" was already in use before 1981. It was used as early as 1972 to characterize Xerox PARC's Alto. However, because of the success of the IBM Personal Computer, the term PC came to mean more specifically a microcomputer compatible with IBM's PC products.
And get this, here are the specs: DOS 1.0 (remember way back before Windows?), an INTEL 8088 processor running at a stunning 4.77 MHZ (today's are approaching 4GHz or an increase in speed of 1000 times faster) and this is the best part,
memory was available in increments between 16k and 256k. 4GB is now pretty much the standard, an increase im memory of four million times. Above is a picture of that original P.C., the old IBM 5150. Just for fun, there is also a picture of the Microsoft Team, from way back in the early days, and a recent pic with all the players standing in the same spot. Billy G. is lower left. He looks about 13 doesn't he?
